IIMA Campus – Nature Walk.
Birds @ IIMA Campus
On Sunday I went to the old campus for some bird watching… and saw quite a few of em.. Birds of the feathered kind I mean. Honest!
It started with a mail…
” Prakriti – The Nature Club of IIMA is organising a nature walk to observe and appreciate the beauty of flora and fauna in the campus with an emphasis on birds.
With this nature walk Prakriti would like to welcome the exchange students and invite them to experience this aspect of IIMA life.
IIM Ahmedabad campus is rich in beautiful flora and fauna. This is an oasis found attractive by many birds and insects in Ahmedabad as the city has very few green spaces to offer. Many varieties of tropical trees are present on campus along with several native birds and many more migratory birds make this place their home during various part of the year!
The campus is a well known nesting grounds (amongst only 4 in and around Ahmedabad) for White-rumped vultures (Gyps bengalensis), a critically endangered species. They are plenty on campus and prefer to sit on tall trees like Eucalyptus and huge Neem trees mainly found around the faculty houses. We will start from LKP at 6.30 am and move towards the faculty houses and end at the student mess. This nature walk is a part of the Joy of Giving week so participants can donate to Prayaas via the donation box kept at the mess. This is completely voluntary andproceeds will be donated to Prayaas, an IIM-A students’ initiative to teach underprivileged children from the campus vicinity.
So please come and make it a rejuvenating experience.

Dragged myself out of bed early morning on the 26th and for a change I reached the venue a few minutes in advance!
The walk was for around 1.5 hours as expected…
and I got chased by a dog when I wandered off from the group… that was unexpected.

– I recently managed to read the camera manual… and now I know a lot more ways of manually messing up a pic… which explains the hazy pics, the out of focus pix etc.
– There were a few more birds that we saw, but they didn’t wait till I took a pic… Stupid birds
